I have heard many of my friends make the statement " We now have a empty nest".....
And then they begin to describe all they plan to do as a couple without the children living at home.
The vacations....
Second honeymoons....
Home remodels.....
Toys such as motorcycles, boats and RVs for lazy weekend time together.
My empty nest is much different.....
I am a single parent.
For so many years my house was always filled to the brim with kids.....
My children and their slew of friends.
My weekends filled with their activities and sporting events....
My week nights booked with endless practices, school projects and road running.
Laughter echoing from every part of the house......
Teenage drama.....
Lessons learned......
Memories made.
And now........It's just me.
What's a girl to do????
It's not a pity party I am having for myself.....
I just do not know what to do with myself.
Literally.
My calendar has suddenly become wide open..........
My week nights are quiet......
And my weekends have come to a stretching halt.
"Empty Nest Syndrome" is really no fun!!
Redefining myself........
From who I was with a house full of children.......
To a mom of grown children.
It is a process...........
A whirlwind of change.....
A new chapter.......
Another road of learning and growing.
Proverbs 22:6
6 Train up a child in the way he should go,
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
And when he is old he will not depart from it.
No matter how many times I long for my nest to be full again.......
It won't be.
I will always be mom......
That will never change.
My role will now come in a different capacity.
My daddy God has plans for this momma bird as well as my babies.
I have given them both roots and wings.....
It's their time to fly......
Mine too!!!
God's word tells us "all things work together for good to them that love him".....
(Romans8:28)
And that includes my empty nest!!!!
If you are experiencing "empty nest syndrome" such as I ....
Know that God has a plan for us all after children.....
Our work is not done....
Our seasons in this life are not over.
We just move into different ones :)

Romans 8:28
