My Lesson In Humility

As a mom I tend to have to keep my battle zone in check when it comes to my girls.
The old saying, pick your battles, never quite stuck with me when my girls were growing up.
I chose every battle to wage.....
I was one of those , " You better step off" , "Back up" and "change your direction real quick" kinda moms.
Embarrassing I  know.........

I believed since I was mom and dad in my home , I had to react as a mom with the hugs and it's going to be ok's  and wage war like a dad, protecting his young to any one stepping on one of my children.....
Whether my girls were hurt with words,or actions.....
Here comes Mamma!!!
I didn't slow down enough to gather myself ,my girls and pray about what ever battle was brewing before I went charging the battle field.....
I believed that I had to be both mom and dad and based my actions on having to be tough.
The sad part.......
I was not allowing God to fully be God in my home.
In doing so, I created more stress than I realized.
Hind sight is 20/20...........
And admitting it can taste like vinegar ........

I am not saying there are not nor will never be  battles to be fought and wars to waged for those we love or ourselves......
What I am saying they should be done in the spirit before we ever go in the natural.
As children of God we must allow him to be God in every aspect of our lives.

Because the ones we battle with are his children too.....
We are all his children.

My girls are both now out on their own.....
My oldest will at times still want her mamma to charge the battlefield while my youngest is pleading for me to be still.....
However over the last several years I have earnestly tried to teach my girls by my actions on taking the highroad......
And most importantly, allowing God to be God in their homes on a full time bases.

My lesson in humility ......Allowing God to be God.

Philippians 2:3-4
Let nothing be done through selfish ambition or conceit, but in lowliness of mind let each esteem others better than himself. Let each of you look out not only for his own interests  but also for the interest of others.

  1. I can certainly relate Stacey. For most of the years that my children was home I acted much the same way. Though they did have a father at home, I still took it upon myself to play both roles from time to time. It wasn't until years later when I was reading the book of James that the Lord spoke to me and showed me the "why" of my ways. For me, I was walking in fear and not trusting God. I was not running to the throne of grace and resting in Him, trusting him to show me the way. When my kids acted up, I would react quickly, fearful that their actions reflected that I was not a good mother or that God was not working in their lives, etc. YUCK. Thankfully the Lord slowly began to show me how to replace all those marbles (worries and fears that I tried to control) with his pearls of wisdom, joy and peace. God is Good. Thank goodness He truly is a God of second chances!

    1. I too walked in a great deal of fear. Sad but true.....I allowed the stigma of a single mom from society's point of view to keep me there. If my children fell in life, then I must be a bad mom because there was no man in our home and no "head" of the house per say according to bibical teaching. Little did I realize I had a Godly leader in my home the entire time.....Jesus Christ himself, I just had to surrender my fears and short comings to see that. :)
Hugs to you my sweet friend!!

  2. Your lesson in humility is something we all need to know and practice - Allowing God to be God! However, it is so easy to get caught up in trying to take the reins away from Him, isn't it? Thanks for the great reminder that He knows what is best for us and He sees what is to come, so trusting Him is the way to go.

    Blessings, Joan

  3. Powerful post sis and so true! This brings to mind a message my husband taught. He was reading from Ephesians 6;12. He simply explained to us that as believers we don’t have permission from God to battle one another. We don’t fight people; we persuade them and win them! Totally changed my perspective! Thanks so much for the reminder girl to stay on the path! Love ya!!

    1. Awesome word!!! Thanks for sharing sista!!! Love ya :)

  4. Ouch! That is all I can say. Leaving God to do His work is a tough one for a mom right?! I also have had to back off! Again, you encourage me friend
    God bless

    1. Indeed it is Tracy. I will forever be on my potter's wheel :))
