Ask, Seek and Knock~

I remember as a child I would always ask, "How much longer?"
In my best whining voice I could muster.

Rather is was on a special event coming up.......
A TV show......
When I was grounded.......... ( which was quite often I must add for the rebel child that I was)
Or the arrival of a guest.

"How much longer" tended to be my words of choice to my mom when questioning a time frame that was given to me.

As a young child, my Dad believed children were to be seen and not heard.....
To do as I was told without the knowledge as why things were done in a certain manner.....
To not speak unless spoken to.....

( Yeah, for those that know me, know that  never happened!! I could and still can talk to a brick wall)

With these old school traditions I was raised in, for the short period my father was with us before my parents divorce, me asking "how much longer" or "why"  did not go over too well on many occasions.
I was not to question my dad, period end of subject!!!!

But how many times in life do we want to  ask our daddy God the same questions?

Tradition taught me I was not to question God...... AT ALL!

To do so I would have His wrath poured out on me.
I would be punished for my "lack of faith" .....
It was by all accounts disrespectful to question God's ways.

Because I was fearful  as a child to question my earthly father.........
I became terrified of my daddy God!!!!

I tried to become "perfect".......
Never questioning nor asking.............
Trying to learn on my own............

That didn't work out so well for me. I am not perfect, and I found I can not learn God's ways if I do not ask.........

But the good news......
The very very GOOD news......

Matthew 7:7-8

New International Version (NIV)
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.

We can ASK!!!!
We can knock and seek!!!!

And let me tell you........ Boy do I ever ask, knock and seek!!!!!

Only now it isn't a brick wall, it is my daddy God speaking back to me, His daughter!!!!

I encourage you not to be afraid to ask God "how much longer" or "why".

We have been given access to the throne of God through Jesus!!! We can come boldly before the Lord and ask Him anything!!!!

Our daddy God wants a relationship with His children. He desires for us to fellowship with him.
To walk, talk and share......
To ask, seek and knock.

It is in our conversations with God, we not only obtain the knowledge he wants us to have, we also experience the love of our Father, a love that is unfailing and unconditional~

Much love,

Hebrews 4:16

New King James Version (NKJV)
16 Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need.

  1. You know, adults are often a lot like children, when we are waiting for God to answer our prayers. Lord, I have been waiting a year...how much longer. While we are waiting, God is producing great things in us! And when I am tried, I will come forth as gold! Great article!

  2. I'm so glad that we CAN ask God for anything--even "How much longer???" He is the perfect Father, regardless of what we saw growing up. Thanks for sharing.

  3. I ask, seek, and knock all the time. My earthly father was hard to talk to, but so glad I found out early on that my Heavenly Father was not. :)

  4. He's such a good Father isn't He! He never makes us feel ashamed or stupid for asking Him anything! Not only that, He never holds what we've done against us! I.so.LOVE.Him! Thanks my friend for sharing and thanks for dropping by and linking up! XOXO

  5. I was taught as a child not to question God. But recently I have learned that he wants us to ask questions....I am still bad about "How much longer" and the occasional
    " Why".....Great post Stacey

  6. What an awesome privilege we share - having the ability to boldly go to the throne!
