A Hurricane is Ah-Comin'........

Living in the Gulf coast region, we are very familiar with hurricanes and the preparation for one.
We know when to start getting the supplies we will need for the several days we will be without power.
How much food, water, bug spray, batteries, and flashlights to have on hand.

We know to go get gas for our cars, and generators as all pumps will be non functioning for several days if not weeks depending on the severity of the storm.

The thing about hurricanes, we know days if not weeks in advance one is approaching. The one thing we can not determine until the last minute is how intense the storm will be when it hits land, and exactly when it will hit land. It changes constantly as it makes it way inland.......

The course can change......
The category can change ( how strong or weak it will be)..........
The winds..............
The size...............
The speed..........
The time it's to hit..........
And the duration of it's presence...............

So here we are preparing as Hurricane Isaac makes his way to grace us with his unwanted presence in the next several hours, and remembering that 7 years ago to the day, the catastrophic damage Hurricane Katrina  made when she hit New Orleans.

I am not scared or worried, nor am I having panic attacks. I know that my Daddy God is in control and as I have wavered other hurricanes as a Gulf Coast native here in Louisiana, I began to think about when we experience emotional and spiritual "hurricanes" in life.

Many of those blind side us.

They can come from out of no where and tend to drop us to our knees.
They come in minor and major hits............

When we lose a job.......
Experience a death of a loved one.........
A marriage that dissolves............
A illness..............
An injury........

Maybe it's a financial crisis that we were not expecting.............
The loss of our homes............
Or a move that we had not expected to make.............

How are we to prepare for those kinds of "Hurricanes"??

GODS WORD!!!!
To have his word hidden so deep in our hearts, they are the first, last and only defense we cling to during one life's hurricanes.

It is his words that are our strongest defense for any of life's hurricanes. So as I finish up my last bit of preparations for Isaac to visit.....
I encourage you all,  no matter what storm you may be going through in life, grab Gods words and apply them to your circumstances and situations and watch your storm dissolve~

PS....The sun will come out and shine again :)

Much Love~

  1. Such truth in this post! It is easy to fall prey to fear, but what better things await us when we just pray!

  2. Hi Stacey - so much truth here. The only way to be prepared for the storms of life is to stay firm in the word. having said that, to read about sailing, and then to go sailing is 2 different things. We have to trust the manual, the great I AM, that His word is good and true even though it doesn't always "feel" that way.
God bless and great post and i am praying big time for you
